Did you know...

The weather in Iceland is not as cold as you might think. (Winter is a heck of a lot colder in Minnesota than it is in Iceland!) The climate is relatively mild because of the influence of the Atlantic Ocean’s Gulf Stream. Average winter daytime temperature in Reykjavik is 31 degrees F. (−1 degrees C.)

Economy

If you ever considered traveling to Iceland, now it's the right now. The recent economy melt down of the Icelandic economy made Iceland one of the most affordable countries to visit in Europe.

Since August 2008 the Icelandic Krona lost over 50% of its value and as of August 2009 its value keeps going down. Ther e are many factors responsible for the crisis both on the international and national levels. On the national level it was the lack of the government to wisely monitor the private owned banks and the flow of cash from and within the island. With the burst of the real estate bubble in the US a chain reaction begun that drew to it almost every country in the world and the small economy of Iceland suffered the worst hit. The situation was so bad that during a short period in 2009 the Icelandic economy was compared to the economy of Zimbabwe in its inflation rate and prospects of growth. Iceland which once dominated the international charts of income per capita is now a country which is in a fast track to return to its previous condition of a country of fishermen and farmers. From a tourist point of view a positive shift had occurred , Iceland going back to its roots gives a more authentic experience for visitors as well as the Icelandic government is doing its best to encourage tourist and tourism. Indeed, 2009 was a break record year in the number of visitors to the island. Tourism is now regarded as one of the best resources for the growth in the country. If you ever planned a visit to Iceland, now it's the time. Both the Icelandic people and your own pocket can benefit from it.
